Where do you teach?

I teach at Guthrie Upper Elementary.

How long have you been teaching?

I have been a teacher for 20 years.

What grade do you teach?

I teach 5th grade Math.

What’s your favorite school supply?

I like the Ticonderoga #2 pencils. They are well worth the extra money.

Who was your favorite teacher growing up and why?

My favorite teacher growing up was Mrs. Daniels. She always read adventurous books that encouraged us to read.

What is your super power to be able to rock out the work you do?

The ability to roll with the punches, be very flexible, and expect the unexpected.

What made you want to teach?

I became a teacher because I enjoy working with kids.

What gets you up everyday to go give your all to teaching?

The chance to see the light bulb come on when someone understands something for the first time

If you could change one thing about education, what would you change?

I would change the negative stigma that the media has placed on teachers. There are great teachers that teach in Oklahoma. The good ones don't all leave!

The most patient people on earth.

What is one tip you would share to be a successful teacher?

The most important thing is to form a bond with your students. The students will work hard for you once this is accomplished. They will begin to have confidence in themselves and success will be just around the corner.

What would you do if you were not teaching?

I would be raising cattle and farming.

Share the last time you cried as a teacher.

I wasn't crying. I got something in my eye!

Who inspires you in your work?

My students inspire me each day. They inspire me to make learning fun.

How would you describe a conversation with one of your students?

A conversation would contain a lot of humor and joking around.

What is it that the world does not know about teachers?

They have a life outside of school.

Who has been your biggest supporter as an educator? 

I have had many supporters over the years.

Share your biggest joy teaching? 

My biggest joy is to build a students confidence. Take the t out of can't and say "I Can"!

What is one thing that makes you smile?

It makes me smile when I see former students around town.
